Trans Julian Alps Mountain Biking

Bled, with its iconic lake, represents a natural gateway to the Julian Alps—often described as the eastern entrance to this stunning part of Slovenia, which also includes the Triglav National Park. The destination offers a rich variety of experiences, from outdoor activities and shopping to lively evening scenes and solid culinary options.

The first day is dedicated to connecting with the destination: a welcome meeting, introduction to the program, and getting to know the local trails. It’s a dynamic day filled with natural beauty and diverse new experiences.

The first stage runs from Lake Bled to Kranjska Gora. There are two options here: the first goes via Pokljuka and the Radovna Valley, while the second follows the scenic slopes of the Karawanks. Both variants meet in Mojstrana, where we continue into the beautiful Vrata Valley. This is followed by an inspiring ride all the way to Kranjska Gora, a destination known for its hospitality and a wide range of evening options.

Today’s ride takes place almost entirely within Triglav National Park. It is a truly unique mountain biking stage—less focused on classic trails due to the park’s regulations, but instead following historic gravel mountain roads, quiet side routes, and occasional sections of trail where permitted.

The route leads us over the Vršič mountain pass and down into the Trenta Valley, home to the emerald Soča River. Expect breathtaking alpine scenery, plenty of opportunities to relax along the way, and the unforgettable presence of the Soča—renowned for its striking color and refreshing clarity.

The third stage of this beautiful mountain biking tour around the Julian Alps takes us over Kobarid Stol—a highly scenic grassy mountain that also played an important role during World War I. A gravel road leads us to the summit, after which you can choose your descent based on technical difficulty.

For those who prefer staying in the valley, there are two alternative routes that follow the Soča River throughout. This stage offers a true experience of the western Julian Alps, where views stretch far and wide across a dramatic alpine landscape.

The final day of cycling around the Julian Alps first takes us high onto alpine pastures beneath Mount Krn. From there, we traverse scenic slopes before descending into the Tolminka River valley and through the stunning Tolmin Gorges, connecting into the town of Tolmin.

From there, a final stretch of riding leads us to the panoramic train, which connects Most na Soči with Bled. The train journey along this beautiful railway line brings us comfortably back to Bled, offering a memorable and scenic conclusion to the tour.

This exceptional mountain biking tour can be extended by one additional stage. This means adding an extra day in Bohinj. You arrive in Bohinj by train, home to the beautiful Lake Bohinj, where you spend an additional night. The final stage then takes you from Bohinj to Bled, crossing the stunning Pokljuka Plateau, known for its alpine pastures and vast, majestic forests.
